How Long Will The Installation
Take?
-
Each and every project is
different and carries with it a host of obstacles that must be dealt
with properly in order to ensure the high quality of workmanship
provided in every MACWEST Steel roof. Although MACWEST Steel
makes every attempt to provide our clients with an accurate completion
date, it is important to understand that this can vary slightly.
Can I Purchase Materials
Directly From MACWEST Steel?
-
The short answer to this
questions is "Yes". However, it is important to note
that the installation of a steel roof requires skills and equipment
particular to the metal roofing / tinsmithing trades. Many home
owners have been mislead by advertising, home renovations shows and
magazines that give the impression that the installation of a metal
roof is a straightforward and quick exercise. This is not the
case.
-
The element of height makes
the installation inherently dangerous. This alone should be
a deterrent to those who do not own or know how to use the proper
safety equipment.
-
Installing a metal roof so
that it is weather / water tight and aesthetically pleasing
requires skill & equipment not found in a typical
workshop. With regard to equipment, the following is
required at a minimum:
-
Steel Brake
(bender): A brake capable of bending 24 & 26 gauge
prepainted galvanized steel is required. Do NOT try to
bend sheets with an aluminum bender. You WILL break (no
pun intended) the bender.
-
Tinsnips: Right,
Left & Straight.
-
Hand Bender: This
is used for folding over panel ends up to a 1" throat
Depth. Can be purchased from MACWEST Steel.
-
Cordless Drill (s)
-
Nail Gun: This is used
for fastening the purlins to the roof deck. Although you
can do it the old fashioned way by using a hammer, we
recommend using technology to your advantage.
-
Circular Saw:
Needed to cut the purlins to length.
Does MACWEST Steel Install
During The Winter:
-
Yes. In the Northeast,
any project / work taking place between December 1 and March 31 is
"weather dependant". Our typical limit for working
outside is minus 15 degrees C / 5 degrees F. MACWEST performs a
host of activities during the winter months such as complete roof
installations, roof flashing repairs / replacements, cladding (wall)
installations and snow guard / snow fence installations.
